Star CC from Bath scored 166 for 8 batting first, with two wickets apiece claimed by Angus and George and Rich picking up 3. Nearly everyone bowled at least a couple of overs in the last game.
In reply we struggled to 140 all out, giving victory to the visitors. As has often happened this season, only the openers made significant runs, Andy 33 in the first wicket partnership of 59, with Rob W going on to make a creditable 63. Dave S was the only other double figure scorer.

Don’t forget End of Season Meal date for your dairies Sat 7th Nov 2015
I knew I should not have let Andy have access!!
New post are appearing from the past, keep checking back you don’t know when you might pop up.
Congratulations to Mike and Cecelia, who tied the knot this weekend, we wish them well.
Ipplepen was the penultimate game of the season and another early start, this time to try and get a game in ahead of the rain forecast for around teatime.
Batting first they amassed 186 for 5 while our batting, although getting off to a steady start but slow for the run chase, collapsed when we lost 6 wickets for 18 runs. This included successive ball goldens for George and Rob L. The second best batting partnership of 33 was for the 9 wicket when Ben and Steve W, neither of whom could run between the wickets, enjoyed the oppositions part time bowlers.
Ipplepen won by 66 runs. Perhaps we should have started at the normal time and let the rain save us.
Ipplepen 186 for 5
Rob L 4-1-14-1, George 6-1-26-2, Angus 6-0-47-0, Marcus 5-0-36-1, Andy 6-0-34-1, Steve C 3-0-26-0

Final game at home next Sunday 20th Sept against Star CC from Bath. places are filling quickly so contact Ben/Rob L to let them know your availability. Else you may be disappointed.
On a beautiful late summer afternoon, Aldbourne scored 189 all out batting first and in reply we reached 150 for 9 to secure a losing draw. I didn’t expect to be writing this, but Rob L and Mike batted out the last four overs to secure the draw. Wickets were shared around the bowlers, with the exception of Angus who failed to take any.
No game this weekend as unable to raise a team, shame, ground was looking good today, albeit a little damp.
Final three games, contact Rob L and/or Ben to let them know your availability for the remaining games.
Fri 21 Aug v Southwell Ramblers
A misty and drizzly day at Barrow Park saw us entertain a touring side that has been coming to us since the early eighties. A delayed start because of the poor weather saw Ramblers batting in a reduced 30 over a side game. They made steady progress with useful contributions from three batsmen to reach 152 runs.
All the bowlers were successful in taking at least one wicket, but when Andy’s last couple of pies went for consecutive sixes, he asked the captain to take him off! Our best bowler was Gus, the Ramblers captain, playing for us as we were short of players, he returned 2 for 24 off 7 overs.
After tea batting was difficult against a good opening pair of Rambler’s bowlers, and the increasing persistent drizzle. None of the first five batsmen made it to double figures, but then the ship was steadied, with Gus 20* and Geoff 8, our second octogenarian playing for the club. We were never going to chase down their total and finished on 81 for 8.
Southwell Ramblers 152 for 8
George 7-1-16-1, Angus 6-0-34-2, Andy 5-0-38-1, Gus 7-0-24-2, Rich 5-0-29-1
Mount Edgcumbe 81 for 8
Andy 5, Dave 8, Charlie 7, Rich 2, Angus 5, Gus 20*, Geoff 8, George 11, Lucas 0
Sun 23 Aug v Exeter Erratics
Four days of rain and a soggy ground put paid to the game on Sunday.
Next game Sunday at home, contact Rich to let him know your availability for this game or any of the remaining games.
A visit to Flete Estate often means a hard fought low scoring game and yesterdays was no different. With two wickets falling in two balls in the last over of the game, Holbeton then needed 6 runs off the last two balls to secure a win. Well I not sure what sort of pie Andy threw down, but it was despatched over the boundary for six. Holbeton securing victory with a ball to spare.
Losing the toss we were asked to bat and although crease occupation was not difficult scoring runs was, as was demonstrated by Wes’s 49 balls, 51 mins for 9 runs. Andy again fared best with the bat scoring a patient 53, his fifty in 108 balls and 118 mins, finishing our allotted 40 overs on 129 runs.
Holbeton struggled to score runs as we did, with their scores almost matching those we posted over by over. Wickets for Angus, George, Steve C, Mickey with Andrew picking up four. A catch and a stumping for Scott, but several possible match winning catches were spilled. Hard luck to Josh who showed up the rest of the team by attacking the ball, but failing to hold on to the chances around his feet .
Mount Edgcumbe 129 – 6
Andy 53, Scott 11, Marcus 1, Mickey 13, Wes 9, George 15*, Steve C 7, Tom 1*
Holbeton 130 – 9
Angus 8-3-14-1, George 8-3-20-1, Steve C 5-0-16-1, Mickey 6 -0-23-1, Marcus 7-2-17-0, Andy 5.5-0-32-4
Two games this week, Friday and Sunday, please contact Rich or Andy to let them know your availability, especially those who left yesterday with question marks around their availability.
PS Don’t forget our Facebook page especially if you have a contribution!
A valiant effort with the bat by Andy failed to steer us past the 161 run target set by the visitors. This target was restricted by the bowlers with the last 5 wickets falling for only 9 runs. Almost matched by our own middle order collapse which saw us loose 5 wickets for 16 runs.
Andy carried his bat for 71 runs, his fifty coming off 87 balls in 97 mins, he was ably supported by Ollie initially and Mickey and Angus in the tail. Thanks to Ollie for his contributions to the club over the last few years, we wish him well in his studies and job hunt.
The outfield was lively with some younger legs around and several catches taken, a runout and stumping from Alan, all contributed to the game. The best catch that wasn’t had to go to young Tom’s effort. Perhaps after a few more games he will realise that if you knock it up in the air you can have a second chance.
Mickey was the most successful of the bowlers picking up 4 wickets and Alan dismissal was unusual, stepping back to cut the ball, he brought his bat down onto the stumps, breaking the bail in the process. That will be £4.50 please Alan.

Away to Holbeton next Sunday and following that, two games the week after at home on the Friday and Sunday. Contact Richard if you are available to play.
Well, its good to be back playing cricket at Barrow Park after what seems like an age away. It also took an age to get here today. Congrats must go to the new Mum and Dad.
Put into bat by the opposition, contributions all down the order saw us scramble to 149, a defendable total. New boy Scott had the perfect start, his first ball faced, off driven for 4 runs and his first ball bowled resulted in a wicket, he also held a catch. Welcome to Mount Edgcumbe.
Ollie is starting to get a reputation, you won’t want him as a batting partner. Having run out Angus, mind you he wasn’t backining up, he tried to repeat the feat with Mike, but a Northern Nooooo resounded around the ground and I think Ollie got the message.
Faced with a tricky couple of overs before tea the visitors lost 2 wickets, putting them on the backfoot. Rich finished his spell with 5 for 19 and 3 wickets from George and 2 from Scott saw us win comfortably in the end by 64 runs.
MT Edgcumbe 149 all out
Andy 13, Jon W 9, Alan 4, Wes 12, Rich 20, Scott 22, George 5, Ollie 21, Angus 3, Mike 3, Rob L 0

Next game home to Old Sutts on Sunday 9 August, please contact Richard if you are able to play.
The team who failed to defend the posted total!
No game today, just as well, looking at the rain falling outside the window.
Summary of the three tour game around Bath follow:
Wet weather put paid to this game.
The tour is next, three games at Box on Thurs 16th, Westerleigh on Fri 17th and Aldbourne on Sun 19th.
As often happens at the small Cheesewring ground high scoring games occur, but on this occasion batting second we failed to overhaul their 236 score by just 3 runs. So who was to blame?
Was it the last man out with four balls still to go;
Was it the umpire who gave him out LBW;
Was it the middle order (batsmen 4, 5, and 6) who only managed 1 run between them;
Was it the bowlers, all 5, who conceded 40 + runs off there eight overs:
It certainly wasn’t Jon Cummings who took three catches behind the stumps, and followed that with a superb hundred with the bat. His fifty came off 31 balls and his 100 off 70 balls. In fact the scoring shots for the fifty included; 10 fours; 2 singles; and 2 sixes.
A game perhaps we should have won, but that’s cricket.
George 2 for 43, Ben S 1-44, Andy 2-43, Steve C 2-43, Mickey 2 for 46
Mount Edgcumbe 233 all out
Steve M 11, Rob W 33, Jon 105, Ben S 0, Andy 1, Steve C 0, OBK 6, George 32, Mickey 15* Angus 5, Rob D 0
Next game at home to Shaldon on the 28th June, contact Mickey if you can play. The following weeks home game against Clyst has been cancelled, so if you were planning to play that game, switch to one of the other two games before the tour.
No game today as match has been cancelled.
Contact Mickey if available to play next week, away at Cheesewring.
Thanks to Darren and Wayne who helped make the home side 11 players.
195 for 9 could have been much worse after an opening stand of 113. Wickets to Marcus 2, Steve W 1, Mike 1 and Darren 5 for 12 helped restrict the total.
In reply we never rely troubled their total, all out for 97, top scorers Billy 25, Darren 16* Dave S 12, Ali B 11. We lost by 98 runs.
Billy 0 for 25, Ali B 0 for 28, Marcus 2 for 64, Wayne 0 for 35, Darren 5 for 12, Steve W 1 for 15 and Mike OBK 1 for 2
Marcus 6, Dave S 12, Mike OBK 5, Wayne 5, Billy 25, Ali 11, Wes 0, Darren 16*, Alan 5, Steve W 4, Rob D 0
Next game at home to Entertainers Sunday 14th June at Barrow park, contact Steve Ware or Mickey Gray if available or wanting to play.
A snip-it of information from Barrow Park. We won!
Only 9 players who manage to score 149, thanks to contributions of 19 from Callum, 40 from Rob W and 47* from Oliver, who ran out of partners before he could secure a fifty.
In response Menheniot could only manage 118 all out. Ali and George picking up 2 wickets apiece and Callum with 4 for 28.
A win by 31 runs,
Mt Edgcumbe 149 all out
Callum 19, Rob W 40, Wes 1, Ali B 4, Oliver 47* Evan 12, George 1, Mike 4, Rob L 2.
Menheniot 118 all out
Ali B 2 for 25, George 2-19, Callum 4 for 28, Evan 0-37
A damp afternoon led to a brighter evening and a draw for the home side. Wombats batting first look to be heading to a score of 220 or 250 at one point, but Ali B’s 6 for 16 off 7 overs restricted the visitors to 170 .
However after the first 10 overs we looked to be heading for defeat, five wickets down and only 11 runs on the scoreboard. Then the Way brothers came together, putting on 83 for the 6 wicket. Jon finished 67 not out, his 50 came off 78 balls, and Rob was out for 28 runs. Angus 12* and Jon saw out the remaining overs to steer us to a draw at 128 for 6.
Wombats 170 all out
Angus 2 for 23, Micky 1 for 21, Ali B 6 for 16
Mt Edgcumbe 128 for 6
Alan 1, Wes 4, Matt 3, Marcus 0, Ali B 0, Rob 28, Jon 67, Angus 12
Next game at home to Menheniot on Sun 31st May 2015. Contact Andy up to Wednesday or George from Thursday to play.
For the second time in two years a close finish to the game saw the home side winning. A low scoring game, just two runs an over saw Fortescue all out for 72. Tight bowling especially from George (8 overs 5 maidens 6 runs 2wickets) restricted the visitors.
Batting was no easier for the home side, Alan 14 off 41 balls, Matt 5 off 46 balls and Steve 17* off 42 balls and with the last pair, Steve and Rob, at the wicket still needing 13 runs. However they managed it although the last three singles had a bit of desperation about them.
Next game at home on Sunday 24th May, team places filling up fast, so if you want to play contact Andy as soon as possible.
No game this week as match was cancelled.
Next game at home on Sunday 10th May v Fortescue.
Please contact Andy if interested in playing, either for this game or any future game.
Our first win of the season and the first individual score of 50.
Due to the inclement weather a game of 35 overs a side was agreed. Stoke batted first and wickets fell regularly before reaching a total of 154 all out. The best bowling was from George 2-23 and Ali with a club PB of 3-16.
We reached the target for the loss of 5 wickets, with major contribution from Marcus 30, Andy 36*, Ali another club PB 50 and the winning runs, a streaky four over the top, hit by captain Rob.
The next game at home to Holbeton on Sun 10th May
The season got under way this weekend with the skipper inviting the opposition to bat, the result of which left us chasing 249 to win! Well we never got close, but we enjoyed the opportunity to play cricket. The exception to that might be the one of the old timers who made an early season appearance but was regretting it by the end of the game.
Wickets fell to Marcus, the first of the season, Rob L and our best Andy with 3 for 26.
Batting should plenty of first game of the season, with Marcus getting 28 and other double figure scores being Andy 10, Rich,12, and Angus 11 not out.
Next game at Barrow Park on Sunday 3rd May 2015 v Stoke Fleming & Blackawton.
The first day of the season is here, the sun was shining, I had cut the grass. Hang on! We were missing the teams. Todays game was cancelled.
If your available for next Sunday or any Sunday, contact Rob Lock, It is easier for you to contact him and why not volunteer the donation of a tea at the same time.
