v Aldbourne Sun 8 Sept 2019 at Barrow Park

Last game of the 2019 season;

Record so far, Played 19, Won 12, Drawn 7;
Could we complete a first, as far as my records and memory serves by going through the season without losing a game?
We batted first with Andrew and Chris opening and after three overs Chris limped off with a calf injury, which meant Dave joined Andrew. Progress was steady but slow and in the 34 over with the score on 129 Dave was out for 35. Andrew and Ben pushed on with Andrew’s fifty off 67 balls in 64 mins and his hundred off 122 balls in 119 mins, he was finally out for 113 with the score on 170. Ben, Will, Wes, Micky, Dan and Rob L took chances but got us to 215 for a declaration.
Wickets fell regularly and after 27 overs the opposition were on 126 with the last pair at the wicket, could we dream of another win!
Rob L picked up 2 wickets but took a bit of stick in his last three overs conceding 40 runs.
Dan was unlucky and didn’t get a wicket.
Tom with a broken finger bowled very well and picked up four vital wickets, returning figures of 4 for 29.
Dave picked up two, one thanks to a brilliant catch by Will at deep mid wicket, to remove their danger batsman.
Just the one wicket to pick up in the final  13 overs, or will the last pair score 90 runs to rob us an undefeated season.
Wes tried, Will tried, Ben tried and Andrew tried, all the time the last pair edging towards the final total, should we have brought back one or more or the wicket taking bowlers, we will never know.
End of the game, the last pair had put on 76 undefeated runs, we hadn’t lost, but perhaps we should have won.
A season undefeated a new record for the books,
Mt Edgcumbe 215 for 6
Andrew Ware 113, Chris Baskerville 3* Dave Doherty 35 (1 catch), Ben Hutson 20 (1 catch), Will Ashurst 10 (1 catch, club PB), Wes Tunbridge 1, Micky Gray 4 (1 wc catch), Dan Rogers 4*, Rob Lock 5*, Tom Vowler DNB
Aldbourne 202 for 8
Rob 5o 0m 40r 2w, Dan 7o 1m 34r 0w, Tom 9o 1m 29r 4w (club PB), Dave 7o 1m 22r 2w, Wes 3o 0m 13r 0w, Will 3o 0m 20r 0w, Ben 3o 0m 24r 0w, Andrew 3o 0m 10r 0w

On the 6th May 2007 Mount Edgcumbe played against Cheesewring CC at Upton Cross.

Batting first we set a then club record score of 271-1.  John Fearon carried his bat to score 114*, his maiden century.  He opened with Steve Boyd (62) in a first wicket partnership of 105.  Martin Moore joined John to score 59* and help post a record second wicket partnership of 166*, which was also the all-time highest score for any wicket.

This may have been the only instance ever of an innings featuring two century partnerships or  an innings  where all three batsmen scored half centuries.
